The Chief Report - Movie Blog: "Am I the only person who was bored silly by House of Flying Daggers? Did I go in expecting too much? All I know is, I hate starting a movie, then stopping it without finishing it, but the only way I made it through this movie was to fast forward the last half hour. That's the great thing about subtitled movies; you can fast forward and not miss much. Beyond music I suppose, but I didn't really care.

You've got this group called the Flying Daggers who are like the Robin Hood's of their time. So of course people want them dead, blah blah blah. Basically there's a hot blind chick and a couple of guys who like her. Should have been more action and better fight scenes. Not that they were bad, just not very original. The movie certainly looked good, but I don't remember being that bored sitting on my couch before. Too bad, I had really looked forward to this one. I suppose if you like martial arts films you might like it, but I didn't care for it very much. Really glad I didn't spend money to see it in a theater."

'Once we began to get all of these offers, we thought that to be fair we ought to sell it off to the highest bidder,' he said. 'We'll have it up on eBay for seven days.'
The story was first reported last week when The Herald-Times of Bloomington found that a postage-stamp-sized piece of land in the county west of Bloomington had attracted not one bidder at a tax sale. There is a minimum bid of $1,500 for tax sale parcels.
Since then, Lorenz, county Auditor Angie Lawson and First National Bank in Cloverdale say they have fielded interest calls from CNN, NBC's 'Today' show, television and radio stations from around the world and potential bidders.
'We've gotten probably 15 calls,' Lawson said. 'One of my staff was a clerk in Grant County and issued a marriage license to Lyle Lovett and Julia Roberts, and she said this had gotten more media attention than that did.'
Linda Greenwell, Lorenz's secretary, said she can hardly get any work done.
'We've had calls from around the world � Israel, France, Germany, England, Australia,' she said.

In research released Monday, one in five male drivers said their eyes were diverted from the road by posters of scantily clad women -- such as the saucy cleavage shots of model Eva Herzigova in her notorious adverts for Wonderbra.
However only one in 10 women were put off by the sight of a semi-dressed male model.
Flashing warning signs, huge advertising hoardings and Christmas decorations were also said to be major distractions.
'There is a growing body of concern about the lack of any coherent strategy for arranging roadside furniture,' said Mark Young, an expert in transport ergonomics from Brunel University.
He said novel advertising could cause a significant risk of distracting drivers at crucial times, such as going around a difficult roundabout.
'In fact, this risk is probably underestimated and we need to do more research on the possibility of excluding non-essential information when the driver is already busy dealing with the road,' he said.

Ah well, this week is gonna be cool becoz it is Thanksgiving and no class from Thursday� actually, my ECON 310 class had a vote today as to whether their should be class on Wednesday. Of course, the majority of people decide just to leave one day early and even though they are not leaving, WHO WILL BE SO NERDY THAT THEY WANT CLASS ON A WEDNESDAY MORNING AT 8.30am IN WEATHER LIKE THIS (cold)? So when Prof. Baveja asked the question: �Who wants class on Wednesday?� only a few NERDS put their hand up. Not even 1/4th of the class put their hands up. What a bummer, NERDS are ALWAYS nerds. Me? Of course not, of course I did NOT put my hands up! NO WAY!!!

Beam up to space delayed for Star Trek's Scotty - Yahoo! News: "LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Plans to launch the remains of 'Star Trek' actor James Doohan into space next month have been delayed pending more rocket engine tests, organizers said on Wednesday.
Doohan, who played the 'Star Trek' engineer Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott on the TV series, died in July at age 85. In accord with his last wishes, his cremated remains were set to be launched into space by commercial flight operators Space Services.
Charles Chafer of Space Services said the flight, due to blast off from California, was likely to be delayed from December 6 until at least February because engineers working on the Falcon One rocket wanted to do some more engine tests.
Doohan's remains will be packed into a tube that is ejected from the rocket and expected to orbit Earth for 50 to 200 years.
Chafer said the remains of 200 other people from as far afield as Russia, Japan and Australia would also be on the flight.
'They literally come from all walks of life -- from rocket scientists to restaurant owners and truck drivers. They were mostly people who were interested in space or anyone who just liked to walk out and look up at the stars at night,' said Chafer. "

HAHA, this weekend had a nice start out to it; on Friday I borrowed a dvd from Mrs. Proven that was great, but I'll get back to that.

Damn, after rereading Andrew's stuff about French songs and all, I can't get that stupid Spanish song Beckham was singing the other day out of my head . . . anoying . . . it's a rather joyful song actually, all upbeat with a nice tune . . . only it's about a dead rooster . . . I'm not entirely sure why . . . Spanish may be awesome but it makes no sense . . .

Anyway, I was all happy on Friday and all, and then I got to Honors Geometry. I remembered while I was in there that we had a big test and all. At that time, I suddenly realized that my notes (which we are allowed to use on tests) had disappeared, and my calculator wouldn't turn on. So, Marter started giving me weird looks while I started sticking my head under my desk looking for my notes, then, realizing they were gone, beating my calculator on the desk trying to get it to turn on. Finally, I just ripped the batteries out and put them back in and it turned on by itself (I've had to use that trick before). Luckily, I managed, and the test wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been; the only one I wasn't sure about after the fact was one that I figured out I hadn't read properly, but that's ok.

After I got home, I remembered I still didn't have my notes, so I went back to school. I checked in Mills' room, but they weren't there. I did, however, run into Mizz Harms and Anna in the room, and Harms randomly wanted to know who Anna dated in middle school. Naturally, I had no idea. The only person I could think of to ask w"

Theres been the exam frustration and angst and everything else in life that comes along too. I did my 3hr maths exam block yesterday. I came so very close to falling asleep! 3hrs was too long for an exam that we all finished in 2-2 1/2 hrs. And so as I was waiting to get picked up I talked to my friends, Sarah nearly missed her bus and I think I can hear chickens (This must be the first signs of insanity)... I got home, And as I was sitting at my computer contemplating what to do Walter rings lol! He was at the front and so I quickly got changed out of my school uniform and Walter took me for a drive. It was heaps fun. We went up to the top of Bela Vista... You can see the whole of Cairns up there, it so pretty!

I hate being at home so much. Its such a miserable place to be... and you shouldn't feel like that when your at home... argh. Tonight, Brent is taking me to the movies we are going to Flightplan. I think its a scary movie, I like scary movies lolz! I want to see The Excorsism of Emily Rose but its on too late. So I'm enjoying my first day off from exams and tomorrow I have an Art exam in the afternoon, only 2hrs (...ThankGOD!).

There is just some things I'm really confused about, and/ or just wish it wasnt happening... *sigh* I have to make my mind up! Well I guess thats all I have to say. Not very interesting am I, lol!

Flight plan has a fairly tight circle of characters. You have the paranoid mother, who is a constant state of anguish to the point were you just want to throttle her. You have her kid, a brainless little actor who mutters 'I'm scared' or 'where's daddy?' about a billion times, all the while with that vacant 'I'm acting!' stare that small children get. Then you have the 'security officer' on the plane, who at first glance in just a rather inquisitive passenger, but who later on reveals himself as the 'law enforcement' official on the plane.
One must stop and wonder how this one middle aged rather lazy looking man would be able to stop a terrorist attack, but that is just a little hole in the movie, one of many.
Basically, the mother (from now on reffered to as Kate, because I failed to remember her name) is catching a plane to somewhere, along with her daughter. She has helped construct the engines, and as a consequence is allowed to board without showing any kind of Id or flight pass. In fact, her daughter and her board before even the crew. Yeah.....just like in real life. However, the night before this kate had spent the evening staring suspociously at her neighbours house, where two arabs seemed to be spying on her and her daughter. I was of course a little riled at this, expecting a lame american 'bash the arabs' movie.
However, the plane takes off and the mopey little kid draws a lame retard heart on the window. Kate seems entranced by this, and stares at it for a couple of minutes (how did she do that?!) before suggesting that they go and sit somewhere where they can 'stretch out'.
They do so, and Kate falls asleep. Lo and behold, when Kate awakes, her vacant little"

It was one of the saddest films I have ever watched, I felt so bad after it was over, and then I thought about it all day today. However, there are apparently two different endings, and I saw the one that test audiences rejected. I would be curious to see the other ending because it is far less dramatic I hear, and this ending made the movie all the more tragic in my opinion. Even though it made me feel bad, I enjoyed it a lot, it was an excellent script and an excellent concept for a film. It really made me think. And while Ashton Kutcher is a bit of a dick on punk'd, he was pretty good in this movie. It is probably one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. "
